The TransPac is on the horizon

It appears that Max (on Solar Wind) made it 200 miles out and is now just outside the Golden Gate. I think next he will participate in the 2010 Singlehanded TransPacific Yacht Race (TransPac), 2,200 miles across the Pacific from San Francisco to Hawaii. The last TransPac took place in 2008. To get a feel for the feat, check out the 2008 TransPac position tracker and the 2008 TransPac race logs. I've watched these logs posted as the TransPac's were underway over the years, and depending on conditions and various unexpected events, they can be riveting!
Update: ~5 p.m., 8/2/09, Max finished and is on his way back to the marina. I may see him tonight, if he doesn't take a loooonnnnnnggggg nap onboard. :)
Another update: Max came home. He says he did not make it to the finish line. Winds died down, making the last few miles too difficult to risk, given some equipment failures. However, because qualifying for the TransPac only requires that you sail 200 miles continuously and at least 100 miles offshore, it is very likely he achieved his goal.
