My husband sails as often as he can. He co-owns a Martin 32 with a buddy at work, but he's the main user. He participates in races around the San Francisco Bay, many of them singlehanded. This morning, he set out on the singlehanded Great Pacific Longitude Race (LongPac), sailing a challenging 200 miles out and back. We are expecting good conditions for the first two days, but weather may be calm over the weekend. He may not get back until late Sunday or Monday. If he makes it out 200 miles, he qualifies for the Singlehanded TransPacific Yacht Race to Hawaii, which he so wants to enter.
The Singlehanded Sailing Society just purchased transponders for races and are loaning them out for the first time. Each entrant received a transponder to track their progress. We can see where everyone is by visiting this page. Click Solar Wind to see our progress along the way.
Update: I think he made it!
